Privacy policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
Kaki is an iPhone app that plans your trips around Singapore and tells you when to leave. This policy explains what it collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: Kaki works on events (“left home at 8:06”), not tracking. Your position stays on your phone, and you can delete everything in one tap.
What Kaki collects
Your account
- A random key made on your phone and kept in its Keychain. Our server keeps only a one-way hash of it.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple: that account's ID and email address, so you can get your account back on a new phone. Kaki asks for no other Google or Apple data.
- The language your iPhone uses for Kaki (English or Simplified Chinese), so its messages match.
Your places and trips
- Places you save (such as home and work): a name and coordinates, to plan routes.
- Your trips: where from and to, days, times, and the bus or train ways you prefer.
- What happened on a trip: when you left, reached the stop, got on and off, and arrived; which bus or line; the stop codes; metres walked; and how long the lift or stairs took. Never your position. Kaki uses this to learn your walking pace, ride times and the way you really go.
- Departure times read from Motion & Fitness on your phone, if you allow it (times only, no motion data).
Talking to Kaki
- Your messages are sent to our server and to our language model provider to write the reply. The conversation is kept on your phone; our server doesn't store it.
- Things Kaki remembers about you (for example “works from home on Fridays”), in your own words, and reminders you ask for. You can see, reword or delete each one in the app.
Notifications
- Push tokens from Apple, so Kaki can start and update its card on your lock screen.
What stays on your phone
- Location: used only while a trip is under way (from about 20 minutes before you leave until you arrive) to move the card along. “Near me” sends the nearest bus stop's code, not where you are.
- Calendar: read on the phone. Event titles never leave it; a destination is sent only when you tap to plan a trip there.
- Motion & Fitness and the barometer: processed on the phone into the times above.
Who processes it
We share data only with services that run Kaki, for that purpose only:
- Convex: our database and server.
- DeepSeek: the language model that writes Kaki's replies and some messages (your chat messages and the trip details they need).
- Google Maps Platform: place search and routes (search text, and the start and end of a trip).
- Apple: push notifications and Sign in with Apple.
- Google: Sign in with Google.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
Public data Kaki reads (LTA bus arrivals and timetables, NEA weather) is fetched by bus stop code, station or area, with nothing about you. These services may process data outside Singapore, including in the United States and, for DeepSeek, in China. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking SDKs. This website sets no cookies.
How long it's kept
Your places, trips and trip records are kept until you delete them or your account. Kaki's notes and the changes it made are kept for a year. When you delete your account, everything on our server is deleted, and the app clears its copy on your phone.
Your choices
- Every permission is optional; Kaki works with less, and says what each one adds.
- “What Kaki knows” in the app shows your places, trips, what Kaki remembers and its log.
- “Delete my data” there deletes your account and everything with it, at once.
- Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act you can ask to access or correct your data. Email pan@dailykaki.com.
Children
Kaki isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app when the change matters.
